TÜBİTAK 1004 – Support Program for Centers of Excellence
Within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 1004 – Center of Excellence Support Program, a call opened in 2018 was successfully awarded to a proposal led by METU-GÜNAM, resulting in the launch of the 1004 Program numbered 20AG002. Subsequently, the Turkish Photovoltaic Technologies Platform (TFTP) was established. TFTP has created a synergy by bringing together major manufacturers operating in Turkey, leading R&D institutions, and SMEs. This synergy, supported by the 1004 Program, is expected to become permanent and evolve into a long-term institutional structure.
Aiming to achieve a major breakthrough through its ambitious and comprehensive framework, the 1004 Program numbered 20AG002 brings together a powerful consortium. The program includes METU-GÜNAM, a nationally accredited research infrastructure under Law No. 6550, TÜBİTAK MAM BYET, and the public R&D unit of Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University. From the private sector, ŞİŞECAM, ASELSAN, Kalyon PV, Tescom, Nanovatif, and iTechSolar participate as R&D centers and research infrastructures.
The program also involves globally renowned institutions as international project partners in the field of solar energy technologies: Fraunhofer-ISE (Germany), EPFL (Switzerland), TNO (Netherlands), and IMEC (Belgium).
A total of 141 personnel are engaged in the program’s research projects, including 66 researchers/experts, 63 scholarship students, and 12 supporting staff. The R&D activities are defined to target Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 3 to 6, with a clearly structured technology acquisition roadmap guiding the project’s implementation.
