Project Name: Development of Bifacial IBC Type Cell
Project Principal Investigator: Prof. Dr. Raşit TURAN
Responsible APYK: ODTÜ-GÜNAM
Project Information:
The IBC (Interdigitated Back Contact) cell type is a back-contacted (BC) cell structure in which both n-type and p-type doped junction regions are transferred to the rear surface. Since the optical loss on the front surface is reduced to zero in IBC type cells, the highest efficiency potential among crystal silicon (c-Si) based cell structures belongs to this cell group. Compared to other BC cells; in addition to its zero optical loss, IBC type cells have a very significant potential especially for BIPV applications due to their low cell-to-module (C2M) losses and more aesthetic appearance. IBC production in the world has remained limited due to high costs. However, with the increase in cell efficiency and the decrease in production costs through R&D studies to be carried out, IBC technology is expected to become more attractive and its share in world markets to increase. All of the few IBC cells produced are single-sided, and the back side is completely covered with metal. In addition, complex process steps increase production costs. In this project, IBC cells will be developed as bifacial, thus achieving a high effective efficiency value. In addition, production costs will be reduced with new process techniques to be developed entirely by ODTÜ-GÜNAM.
